A mix designed for catching big fish down the edge. We all know that matches are often won or lost in the last hour, when bigger fish move into the margins and start feeding confidently. That’s why having the right groundbait for margin fishing is essential.

Carp are attracted to groundbait and will feed confidently if the area is properly primed. The problem with many groundbaits used for margin carp is that they’re too light and don’t contain enough feed to keep fish in the swim. Often, when carp feed in the margins, they stir up the bottom, and once hooked, the very groundbait that attracted them is dispersed by the hooked fish.

For this reason, we developed a groundbait that not only draws carp into the margins but keeps them there. Even if the fish stirs up the feed, most of it will sink back to the same spot instead of being washed away.

We achieved this by using heavy ingredients crushed into small particle sizes. When water is added, these particles absorb it and become heavy, so if the feed is disturbed, it quickly drops back down to the bottom, keeping the other fish feeding confidently.

Andy Power (Commercial Specialist) says: “I go through a lot of this when bigger carp are caught in the margins. I mix it as soon as I arrive at my peg to make the particles as heavy as possible. When I feel the time is right, I’ll cup in a little loose to move out any fish without spooking them, then put in plenty for when they return to feed. It’s the best mix for margin carp fishing.”

Mixing Guidelines
Margin Carp is simple to mix. Empty the 2kg bag of groundbait into a round mixing bucket, fill a 2-pint maggot tub with water, pour it over the groundbait, and mix thoroughly. Allow it to rest for 30 minutes so the water is fully absorbed. For best results, riddle the groundbait to remove any lumps and achieve an even consistency.

During fishing, sun and wind may dry the mix slightly. To prevent this, cover it with a damp towel, or if it dries, simply add a little more water and mix again.
